Grading 8th Gup to 7th Gup
Promotional Requirements for 8th to 7th Gup (Yellow Belt with Orange Tag):
Candidates’ Basic Requirements.
To qualify for grading, candidates must have attended class at an officially recognised ITSDF club for a period of not less than twenty five one-hour sessions prior to the grading.
A. GENERAL KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS
- Why he/she is practising basic techniques in one way rather than another.
- The answers to such simple questions as "What is the Korean word for 'belt', 'flag' and your present rank ".
B. DEMONSTRATION OF ABILITY
BASIC TECHNIQUES (Gi Cho)
Hand techniques
Knife hand low block, Knife hand middle block
Foot techniques
Side stretch kick, Side snap kick
FORMS (Hyung)
Kee Cho Hyung Sam Bu, Pyung Ahn Cho Dan
THREE-STEP SPARRING
C. BREAKING TECHNIQUE (Kyok Pa)
Candidate must be able to demonstrate a skillful and correct side snap kick against a three-quarter inch thick breakable board. Women and students below 16 years of age on the day may demonstrate against a half-size board. In addition to the above requirements, the examiner may ask candidates to perform techniques from previous grading examinations.
