Grading 9th Gup to 8th Gup

Promotional Requirements for 9th to 8th Gup (Yellow Belt):

Candidates’ Basic Requirements.

To qualify for grading, candidates must have attended class at an officially recognised ITSDF club for a period of not less than twenty one-hour sessions prior to the grading.

A. GENERAL KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

  1. Why he/she is practising basic techniques in one way rather than another.
  2. The answers to such simple questions as "What is the name of the Grand Master of Tang Soo Do?", "What is the name of your instructor?", "What is the Korean word for the training hall?", "What is the Korean word for a senior student, or uniform?".

B. DEMONSTRATION OF ABILITY


BASIC TECHNIQUES (Gi Cho)

Hand techniques
Inside to outside middle block, Side punch

Foot techniques
Front snap kick

Stances
Horse stance, Back stance

FORMS (Hyung)

Kee Cho Hyung Ee Bu, Kee Cho Hyung Sam Bu

C. BREAKING TECHNIQUE (Kyok Pa)

Candidate must be able to demonstrate a skillful and correct front snap kick against a three-quarter inch thick breakable board. Women and students below 16 years of age on the day may demonstrate against a half-size board. In addition to the above requirements, the examiner may ask candidates to perform techniques from previous grading examinations.
